Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university and ten years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, business and practice development, with at least five years in a leadership role managing people; OR equivalent combination of education and experience and projects. Previous success in marketing and business development in a mid to large size law firm. Knowledge of the competitive landscape of national legal market. Demonstrated capacity to develop and implement strategic business plans and ability to synthesize information into professional marketing communications. Ability to project personal credibility, professionalism, and a high degree of integrity among practice leadership, partners, clients, and firm management. Ability to function independently and effectively. Strong leadership, organizational, team building, interpersonal, and customer service skills are essential.
Facilitates the development of staff by providing opportunities and support; provides timely feedback on work product; regularly coaches, evaluates, and recognizes staff performances and accomplishments.
Mentors a professional team on proactive business development concepts and projects. Works alongside partners and other key stakeholders to craft and implement practice group business plans. Focuses efforts on new business opportunities and cross-selling at the intersection of practice group expertise and industry knowledge. Responsible for getting timely client, industry and competitive intelligence into the hands of our partners. Directs, plans and helps to execute high-impact client events, in accordance with the practice group business plans.
Coaches the Business Development team toward intelligent budget planning and identifying key sponsorships, speaking and authorship opportunities with professional and trade organizations. Supports practice group, marketing and public relations initiatives by collaborating with the firm's Director of Communications. Manages one or two practice groups' business development strategy in addition to managing the Business Development Specialist team, as well as the Events Specialist. Guides the Business Development Team to partner with the Proposal Manager in Support of request for proposals (RFPs) and new business pitch responses providing feedback and editorial commentary when necessary. Guides attorney in making decisions on which opportunities should be pursued. Guides the Business Development Team to work with the Competitive Intelligence Supervisor in competitive intelligence research. Advises and manages firm experience alongside the Business Development Team and will ultimately work with the CCDMO and Director of Communications to create and manage a firm experience database. Orchestrates and mobilizes firm resources to deliver client service excellence, resolving issues, and capitalizing on growth opportunities.
Measures Business Development Team results against the firm's strategic business plan on a quarterly and annual basis and reports to firm management alongside CCDMO and Director of Communications.
Partners with CCDMO to implement a Client Feedback Program.
Partners with CCDMO and Director of Communications on a Key Client/Data Visualization Program.
